"Through the Darkness, We Will Find the Light." is an album for all seasons, set in New England with beautiful fall foliage, long harsh winters, short rainy springs, and blistering hot summers. "Calamity Is My Middle Name" sets the tone of the impending darkness the listener will go through. The next few songs are great guitar rock songs coupled with lyrics of increased struggles. "Keep Smiling, While You're Crying" features a driving funk bass line contrasting the flailing message of encouragement. The album reaches an apocalyptic level with "Falling Asleep Holding a Burning Cigarette" and continues spiraling downward with "7 Years Bad Luck" and the mechanical "Running In Place". The pivotal point begins with "WInter Solstice" showing a full, but gentle instrumentation of synths and pedal steel. Following is the cry for restoration "Naomi Mara" moving upward to the sunny, island feel of the closing track "Free".
